The increase in trademark registrations in Syria is an indicator of the improving business environment.

Syria witnessed a significant increase in trademark registration applications both domestically and internationally in 2025, reflecting a growing awareness of the importance of intellectual property protection and the evolving business environment within the Syrian market.

Data from the Directorate of Industrial and Commercial Property Protection, under the General Directorate of Internal Trade, showed a substantial rise in the number of trademark registration applications. Domestic applications jumped from 7,102 in 2024 to 12,553 in 2025, representing an increase of approximately 77%. International applications also rose from 6,282 to 7,079 during the same period, a 13% increase.

The Significance and Causes of this Growth

Intellectual property law experts believe this increase reflects the expansion of Syrian companies in regulating their commercial rights, the growing interest of economic actors in protecting their investments from counterfeiting and forgery within the markets, and the entry of new companies into the local market.

In a statement, the Director of Industrial and Commercial Property Protection emphasized that trademark registration is not merely a legal matter, but has become a strategic tool for enhancing confidence in local products and regulating the market. This is achieved by granting trademark owners exclusive legal rights that they can invoke against infringers.

The Role of Registration in Strengthening Syrian Companies

The official also pointed out that a registered trademark represents a source of strength for Syrian companies in their international expansion. It facilitates their entry into international markets, strengthens their competitive position, and provides them with a solid legal foundation in international trade partnership negotiations.

This trend confirms that the increase in trademark registrations is a positive indicator of the development of the legal and economic environment in Syria. It reflects a growing awareness of the importance of intellectual property protection as a fundamental component of business growth strategies and investment support.
